Consultant Spotlight - Paul Reay
For the next instalment of consultant spotlight we turn our attention to the Transport and Logistics team, which is run by Senior Consultant Paul Reay. Paul has been with Jayco for nearly 6 months and has over 7 years recruitment experience. He has answered some questions about his role and recruitment career in more detail.
Can you provide an overview of your role at Jayco?
At Jayco I am a Senior Consultant, leading the Industrial and Logistics Department. Dealing with all of the aspects of recruitment, and assisting the consultants, the role entails dealing with clients and candidates to make sure the right people are in the right place, and both the staff are happy with the role and the client have a member of staff with the right personality for the ethos of their business
How did you get into recruitment/ why did you choose recruitment?
I kind of fell into recruitment 7 years ago. I worked in fashion retail for years and with a lot of the swing of trade going to online brands, I decided to take a jump into the unknown. Recruitment offered myself a sales environment as well as a customer facing role that was similar to experiences, I had gained through my retail years.
Most rewarding aspect of the role?
The most rewarding aspect of my role Is building a strong relationship with clients and knowing them as a friend not just as someone I deal with through work. Talking to clients daily, you get to know their personal lives and having that closeness with them feels a reward for hard consistent work.
Main challenges of the role?
People! The main challenge from working in retail to recruitment was dealing with, basically, selling a person. As a recruitment agency you are judged on the person you send to work in a client, and with that person having their own thoughts, and problems, It Is very different to dealing with selling an item in a shop. On the flip side you can meet some amazing people and getting them into the right role Is also a brilliant feeling
Current jobs recruiting for?
Currently I am working on several roles across a wide spectrum. Drivers are always required with Class 1 and Class 2 HGV drivers being the main search in the job sites for myself at the moment. Outside of logistics I am dealing with a large manufacturer with varying roles, and skill bases. This company area long term customer and they offer full-time long term vacancies, with the candidates being transferred on a permanent basis.
